With a grant from the Give Something Back Foundation of Lockport, Illinois, Will County Historical Society hired Trillium Dell to remove twelve buildings adjacent to the I&M Canal comprising their “Pioneer Settlement.” The existing site will be redeveloped into a Lincoln memorial, aptly named the Lincoln Landing. In the meantime, Will County Historical Society is developing its plans to move most of the twelve buildings to a new, larger site, located on Forest Preserve land in the near future.
Buildings dismantled and moved included a stone smokehouse, the Symmerton Depot, Blacksmiths Shop, Wells Corner School, farmhouse, and two log buildings. In addition, the Mokena Jail, tinsmith shop, well, and privy were removed from the I&M Canal site. Trillium Dell Timberworks recently completed restorations to Beecher Hall on the campus of Illinois College. Dating from 1829, Beecher Hall is the first college building in Illinois and still in use today. Our crew replaced much of the roof section and recreated wood trim and soffits of this Late Georgian style hall. New cedar shingles, gutters, leader boxes and downspouts were also installed. Tim Narkiewicz, project manager and sales representative for Trillium Dell remarks, “as Illinois’ oldest college building, Beecher Hall is a significant landmark signifying the college founders’ East-coast origins and their intention to civilize the American frontier through higher education." Click here for more information on Beecher Hall.
Our crew prepared 150 yellow pine logs, some up to 48’ in length. The lodge is part of a $32 million expansion for the zoo, including new space for animals, classrooms, conferences and other events. We were pleased to work on this project with River City Construction, LLC. on this project. Please visit the Peoria Zoo website for more information on this new exhibit.
Trillium Dell Timberworks in conjunction with the Timber Framers Guild & Dietrich's NA, designed, built, and erected a 36" tall observation tower at scenic Lake Vermillion in Danville, IL. This project required 4- 32' long bur oaks harvested from the Mississippi river valley cut into octagons at the Trillium Dell Timber Works facility. A workshop was conducted to layout and cut the compound portion the roof. The masterfully done hip roof was then installed on top of the strucure as a single unit. Participants travelled from around the US and Canada to work on this beautiful building, which was completely finished (shingles included) in a two week timeframe in the fall of 2003.
“From beginning to end, Trillium Dell went out of their way to relieve any concerns that the owner, architect, or I had. During construction they were excellent in incorporating new methods of construction while keeping the look and feel of history. Since the first day we met Trillium Dell to the completion of the fort, their skill, knowledge and dedication to this project were of the highest standards.
